Third Republic, established 1870. This sword dating early in that period, about 1875. Silvered bronze hilt with pierced guard. Centered fascine behind a cape with RF (Republic of France) monogram. Silver wire bound grip. 28 5/8” hollow face blade with foliate decoration at the forte and inscribed Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal. Blade smooth with mottled patina. Probably served in the Franco Prussian War of 1870-71.
